Day 32 Diet Dessert? You Have to Try This!

Revenge of the Sweet Tooth

I have a tremendous sweet tooth.

Yep, its pretty bad. The hardest thing about the past 32 days has not been getting enough food but satisfying that sweet tooth and not blowing my calories or overloading on sugar. I originally started by eating one of those small boxes of raisins but they were a) small and b) pretty high in sugar. One small box had 19grams of sugar and 160 calories. The “cost benefit” was not weighing in favor of raisins.

Skip the Snackwells…

I don’t buy into the “low cal or low fat” 100 calorie food rip offs that are out there. To be quite honest, they are smaller versions of regular cookies and cakes. Nothing healthy or smart about them. You end up buying a whole lot of packaging and very little satisfaction. Finding something filling, sweet and nutritious is the only option to long term sanity when dieting.

I soon got creative. Having discovered Greek yogurt, I started to brainstorm some ideas.Since I can’t have ice cream, and I’m avoiding frozen yogurt just because I’ll want to eat A LOT of it, I had to come up with something creative, filling and satisfying.

Here is my “dessert” treat:

strawberrybananatreatStrawberry Banana Yogurt “Treat”

3/4 cup of fresh strawberries 38 calories

1/2 banana 55 calories

3 oz of  plain Greek yogurt 60 calories

4 Tbsp of Cool Whip 50 calories

Total: 12 g Protein, 19 g Sugar, 203 Calories

Not too bad. It is filling, has a good amount of protein and for the size fairly low in sugar. That same box of raisins I would eat had more sugar and was gone in a flash.

If it is not sweet enough you can always add Stevia or even Equal or Splenda to sweeten it up. I like the tartness from the yogurt and the sweet from the fruit. The Cool Whip goes on and stays frozen so its *almost* like ice cream but with a fraction of the calories.

So this “treat” works for me. Its not low carb or Zone friendly for Zone dieters but is probably where I get the bulk of my sugar for the entire day so no harm no foul.

Enjoy!
